One in a flamboyance and a skull

I love that a flock of flamingoes is a flamboyance. Here are some pendants I have done recently.

Welcome to my Garden

Last night I exhibited at The Space Between Gallery in a girls group show, along side artists like Lady Skollie and Jade Klara. It was an amazing night and so excited to see that I can watch 4 seasons of The Wire, sew and some how still be apart of a social world.

Thanks for the support friends!

Monoprint and embroidery

Pendants

After months of thumb holding the SA Postal Service finally came through with my pendants from America. I didn't get a decent image of my first one, a palm tree, but Im really enjoying working at this scale. I think with practise I'll find the way to make it look like I imagine them looking in my head.

Something are best got given

I recently bought as many of these mini frames as I could get my paws on so make treats to give away. They all have homes in America now.

She paints the size of the moon

This embroidery is for Lorraine Loots for being such a wonderful friend to me. If you don't know her work, click on the clink and thank me later. Walking the other day we were discussing the size of the moon. If you look at it practically you might say its about 3-5mm in diameter.

The little things.

Sometimes the best way to enjoys things is uncomfortably close

Sew what.

Girls that Lie

referenced from the an image taken on shoot I did with Evelyn Hart many moons ago, I made the first in a series of portraits "Girls that lie".

Sew what?

While it rained in St Francis, between gigs over New Years I sewed this.

Embroidery: Bertha Benz for Mercedes

Mercedes (MBlife) asked me to do an embroidery for them, so for Valentines we did on inspired by the story of Betha Benz, the wife of Karl Benz.

We did a short interview, that has a small stop motion of the piece in progress.

You can read the full story here.

Embroidery: Owl be there for you

Once upon a time this illustration by Verity Wilson was used on an Element t-shirt. Her super-sweet brother, Dustin, asked me to use it as inspiration for her Christmas present and so it now it lives on, in cheerful colour, on a pillowcase.

It's a little different from what I usually do - in that I illustrated it straight onto fabric without the use of a reference. I don't always trust my drawing skills but I'm very happy with the outcome here.

Embroidery: The big burger

For years I have been working on and off in a burger restaurant, where I have made some of the most wonderful friends. One of which commissioned me to make this. The burger pillow!

Embroidery: Pineapple

Ive had a few commissions over Christmas and been sitting on some things I'd LOVE to share. Finally everyone is gifted and now I can spread the stitching love.

I found a wonderful little DIY print section in a Frankie magazine and created my first 'custom print background'. Tropical no?

Embroidery / Rest your head on this

Making my first pillow commission featuring one of my favourite feathered creatures.. The flamingo (as you may know from previous works and the tattoo on my leg).

Its sewn into a coffee bag graciously stolen from Deluxe Coffeeworks. I love how it makes the colours look. Im a sucker for colours. I tried doing a monochrome embroidery the other day and it bored me to death.

Small embroidered face

This weekend was something special. Got to do the visuals for first of (hopefully) many P.H.fat shows for Vodacom in the City on Friday in Joburg and Rocking the Daisies on Saturday. Sunday I recovered in a mess of threads. Using an image I shot for Mercedes Benz Life SA of Chloe Hugo-Hamman i finished a mini embroidered portrait. From now on they are called Sew Sundays.

I fell asleep embroidering very alien looking boobs and  found the scissors DANGEROUSLY close to face this morning. Threading on the edge.
