Girls that Lie

referenced from the an image taken on shoot I did with Evelyn Hart many moons ago, I made the first in a series of portraits "Girls that lie".

Embroidery: Owl be there for you

Once upon a time this illustration by Verity Wilson was used on an Element t-shirt. Her super-sweet brother, Dustin, asked me to use it as inspiration for her Christmas present and so it now it lives on, in cheerful colour, on a pillowcase.

It's a little different from what I usually do - in that I illustrated it straight onto fabric without the use of a reference. I don't always trust my drawing skills but I'm very happy with the outcome here.

Embroidery: The big burger

For years I have been working on and off in a burger restaurant, where I have made some of the most wonderful friends. One of which commissioned me to make this. The burger pillow!

Gollem: Needle painting

This is my most recent commission for Shrimpy, my second mother I recently stayed with in Australia.
He is the sweetest 3 legged mutt.

I think the tongue is my favourite part.

Multiple Skull

Can someone please recommend a name to call theses things I do with embroidery thread? Thread sketch? Tapestry? Embroidery? Drawing with wool? Cummon guys! I have hash tags to make.

This is a piece I did in New Zealand recently. I wanted to play with multiplying, creating layers, and trying not to go to colourful. Im obsessed with colour and no matter how much I try to go monochrome (even using ablack and white reference) I cant control myself.

Flamingo embroidery: The thread sketch gets bigger

Finally was able to put the finishing touches on my most recent thread sketch. This one has taken me FOREVER. Partly because I have been busy on other (amazing) projects, and partly because in my infinite wisdom, decided to do this one a4. It is slightly smaller due to the tension of all the embroidery.

I have used different thread mediums with this, so there is a little more texture in it. Im still going to decide on the best way to stretch it, or leave that up to the (potential) buyer.

Also, I am obsessed with flamingos as you can see by my tattoo that is by Tyler from Sins of Styles.

A Snake for Jake

Jakobsnake turned 28 on Thursday. I made him this Thread sketch/ embroidery. Im still not sure what to call it. This photo was taken from an iphone and the reference was an ipad wallpaper.

The Collective Silent Auction: Threadsketch

I've been asked to donate work for The Collective happening at Side Street Studios tomorrow night.

I mounted the most recent thread sketch I did  and gave it to Max Mogale while he is was being filmed. In my infinitely nerdy, completely over confident way I managed to mention I fall asleep with needles and scissors in my bed, and thats how single I am. Class act.

Heres the exhibition:

The colour portrait- Threadsketch

I've been feeling out my new favorite medium. 'Drawing/ Painting with thread'. These are two portraits I finished a while ago. I have NO idea how I feel about them, but I had fun doing them non the less.

My aunt told me im not allowed to dabble with Embroidery. Apparently its creepy. Blood is not thicker then passion.

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE

4C Live embroidery (thread sketch)

On Wednesday I partook in a fantastic event, the C4 Soup-apartment (a pop-up restaurant) by doing a 'live embroidery'. Vida asked me to do a live painting and as always I couldnt say no. Only to have to admit to myself, I am certainly no painter. I thought I would do I live thread sketch instead.

I am so blessed to have Sindi in my life who fed my Calci-vita in wine glasses and rewarded my hard work with socks.

Because its a soup restaurant I thought that Id do a portrait of my sister. Shes my comfort food. Its taken from a portrait I took of her some months back.

Somehow I feel like the back of the work is almost better.

A portait in stitches

I really love the  medium of fabric. Toys, clothes, prints, pillows... fabric is every where. Also theres the deep love for illustration. Heres a little thread sketch I did to bring the two together and as practice for another little thing im working on... More soon!

If you let yourself love a wild thing

Salon91 gallery and Greenpop are holding an exhibition for the month of December. The launch was on Saturday and two of my pieces are in the window. The exhibition is a visual buffet. Not a pre-packaged jam-and-white-bread-that-has-been-toasted-3-times-oros-in-a-jug buffet, but the dim sum-prawn-and-ploughmans-platter-of-a-buffet. With fresh fuit. The artists are amazing. Do youself a favour and get your toosh down there this month if you get a chance. I created two pieces. The one is based on the Duck from 'At least the Duck survived' . Its a thread sketch. and the other is a photo printed on canvas with a kiss stitched in.
