Petite Noir / Embroidery

A few years ago I had portraits of Petite Noir published in The Rolling Stone Magaine. As part of my InAwe Residence, I completed this embroidery of Yannick. I think its one of my favourites and definitely think its FAR more effective when they are smaller.

Petite Noir shoot in Rolling Stone

I recently shot Yannick Illunga aka Petite Noir for a pitch for Rolling Stone SA. It was with my dear friend and writer extrodinaire Phumlani Pikoli (the glue of Andiles Bored Company). We've teamed up for a few things on Mahala and always have the best time. Today the latest Rolling Stone was released with two pictures of mine in it, one being a full page. I can't tell you what a bucket list tick this is for me.

It was done pretty impromptu, and we did it in the house. Using both digital and film, natural and tungsten lights. A ladder, rolls of fabrics two pieces of wood and Phumlani were the key elements in the set up, which you can see at the bottom picture (one of my favorites).

Here to many more ticks on the list and shoots with wonderful humans!

me and the magazine!

One film to few

I forget how wonderful the feeling of developing a roll of film is, and regret not taking more photos. It seems I will always feel like its one film to few. Im a huge fan of the Ilford c41 Black and White. Probably because I get the 400 and I'm a sucker for grain and multiple exposures.

Some of these images are from the Petite Noir shoot (more to come) with Phumlani. Follow the link and listen/watch his music. Honestly, hes the next wonderful thing thats about to pop out of this
continent.

Th rest are from about town. The waterfront, Lions head and the indoor picnic on Sunday. Most of the images I cant post because they have the friendlies getting intoxicated on unmentionables (#420NO)

Between the fun, fun was had.

So between the shoot today with Yannick aka IMWVVS aka Petite Noir aka Hey-guy-nice-music we played soccer, played the fool and drank wine adorned in goggles.

Phumonies and I seem slowly be morphing into a team and hopefully will be showing you magic soon! But for now here some silly shots between the shots.

Friends are fucking awesome.
